Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck just released a great book on the growing Emergent Christian movement and what a load it truly is. Why We're Not Emergent. It is a must read.

Well said, Camel Rider. Just as an observer, I've noticed the "emergent" crowd exercising their freedom almost to an excessive degree, toeing "the line" of questionable social behavior, pushing everything to the limit - Just Because They Can. It seems to be more of a maturity issue. And almost an acceptable form of rebellion for kids who grew up in maybe a more legalistic household. When I hang with friends and they choose to have a beer or a glass of wine at a restaurant, they do so with careful consideration, selecting something that goes well with their meal or their favorite off-brand that they wouldn't typically buy at home. When I'm observing the more Emergent-types, they order beer after beer after shot after in-vogue drinks, with no regard for price, affect on their personality, or blood alcohol level. It's all about the freedom. I want that freedom, but I want to have some self-respect too, as well as respect for those I'm with. Not wanting to judge or be judged, just observing and wondering what the price of freedom is...
